Christmas Tree Story – Tips for Unfinished Projects

This is my unfinished project.

This Christmas tree spends part of each year bringing joy to my family and me, displaying cheery lights and custom ornaments that remind us of our adventures together. Now it’s time for the tree to have a well-deserved nap in a box until we reuse it again. But it has spent the last 5 days standing in my home partially disassembled. This does not bring anyone joy.

Do you find yourself stuck in the middle of a project, unable to complete the job? Try one of these three strategies:

  1. If you keep forgetting about the project, move it front and center. Change its proximity to your daily life. Place it on top of your favorite snacks in the kitchen. I know people who tape their most critical projects to the bathroom mirror. Move it somewhere you can’t ignore it.
  1. Think of your most productive time in the day and do that project then. Block it on your calendar, set a phone reminder, and finish up.
  1. Tell someone else about the importance of your project. Sharing the value of your unfinished project with your coach, family, friends, or work colleagues helps you connect those positive relationships with the project, making you more likely to achieve success.

We all have our unfinished projects.

Which one will you complete today?
